  • WHO signs Host Country Agreement with France (6)
    20 June 2024.  The Director-General travelled to Paris to sign a new host country agreement which clarifies the privileges and immunities of the Organization in France, including those related to the WHO Academy and the Lyon Office. The open-ended agreement provides a robust framework for continued fruitful collaboration between France and WHO in the years ahead.   • WHO Academy: Launch of the Group of Friends during WHA77, 27 May 2024 (13)
    The Group of Friends of the WHO Academy was launched on 27 May 2024 on the sidelines of the 77 th World Health Assembly. The event was co-hosted by founding members: France, Indonesia, Japan, Qatar and Rwanda, represented by their minister or vice minister of health. With 30 Member States in attendance, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, expressed his gratitude to the founding Friends, stating, " As a key initiative of the WHO Transformation that began in 2018, the WHO Academy will be a vital asset for Member States, and a game changer in the way WHO supports countries in building capacities. The support of the Group of Friends will enable the WHO Academy to drive lifelong learning in health as a global priority."   • WHO Academy: Mass Casualty Management Training, Lyon, France (15 to 18 May 2024) (50)
    The WHO Academy conducted a 3-day intensive Mass Casualty Management (MCM) training program in Lyon, France, from May 15th to 18th, 2024, for regional hospital care workers. This program brought together emergency unit teams from CHU de Nice (France) and Centre des Urgences de Yaoundé (CURY) (Cameroon) to collaborate during simulated mass casualty scenarios. Participants refined their decision-making and crisis management skills, focusing on the crucial first hour of a mass casualty event.
